What People Are Saying
“Prior to working with Joyce, my firm had recently created a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and we wanted a professional consultant to help assist with improving diversity within our firm. She helped provide a five-year plan to obtaining our diversity goals. Assisted with ideas to do such. She also assisted with various diversity functions the firm has hosted. It has been unanimous within our Diversity Committee that Joyce has been outstanding! She’s extremely responsive, professional and a very creative thinker. We’ve become aware that our initiative is important and that it will take a lot of work. We’ve also learned that this is a marathon and not a sprint, and won’t accomplish everything all at once. Furthermore, we’ve learned that it starts from the top down in order to make change.”

Mental Health America of the MidSouth (MHA) works hard to promote mental and emotional health for Tennesseans, and we have a longstanding commitment to provide our programming in a cultural and linguistic responsive manner. We employed the services of Joyce Searcy to train staff (and available board members) on unconscious or implied bias, as 2020 has been a time of national reflection on racism, bias, and injustice. We selected Joyce from four viable consultants because of her longstanding reputation and expertise on diversity, inclusion, and community engagement. Joyce exceeded our expectations by making this topic practical and teaching us how to be intentional in our inclusion efforts. MHA followed up by scrutinizing our policies, staff leadership, and board leadership. Every organization has statements that they don’t discriminate, but how do you intentionally make strides to be inclusive? I know that Joyce and Momentum will challenge and reinvigorate your organization, too, and I highly recommend Momentum.
— Dr. Tom Starling, CEO of Mental Health America of the MidSouth (Nashville)
“I worked with Joyce when I was Executive Director of Young Leaders Council. Joyce teaches one of the classes in the YLC nonprofit board training program entitled Diversity in the Boardroom. I absolutely LOVE Joyce Searcy and found her classes to be engaging, thought provoking, and full of energy. Joyce's class helped me to personally recognize the implicit bias in my own life and to see how others may feel when they are the 'minority'. I know that often the YLC students also recommended Joyce to their employers for training and consulting services.”
– Lisa Shacklett, former Executive Director, Young Leaders Council
"Joyce is a visionary, mentor, and trailblazer. She is a nationally recognized advocate for diversity and inclusion. Joyce's history of work for racial justice and equity is unparalleled. She has a vision of a more inclusive society that includes decades of learned experience working with nonprofits and corporations."
— Sharon K. Roberson, President & CEO, YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee
“I first encountered Joyce through a training for Young Leaders Council at the Junior League of Nashville headquarters. I was impressed by how she approached the sensitive topic of diversity. Everyone in the room was engaged in eye-opening conversation. It was uncomfortable at times, but respectful and informative. We all left with an understanding of what we have in common, as well as ways to be aware of another’s perspective. I loved it so much that I asked Joyce to do a similar class with another group. We contracted with Joyce/Momentum and I had another great experience. The topic was the same, but the delivery was different – tailored specifically for the audience.”
